5 STEPS TO THE PERFECT GALLERY WALL

1. Find inspiration

The first step is to find your own personal style and inspiration that suits your chosen room, or even your entire home. It’s a good idea to check out our inspiration page, where you can find suggestions for great gallery wall combinations. You can also select the desired room or product group from the drop-down menu to make inspiration more relevant.

Of course, it can’t be forgotten that the best source of inspiration is definitely Wanderwall’s Instagram, which perfectly shows what the posters look like at our dear customers’ homes.

2. Match art to your room

The size and style of a photo wall can only be determined by the location where it’s placed. Separate picture frames can be nicely placed on our picture shelf. To achieve a beautiful result – mix different sizes, poster colours and passe-partouts to create a beautiful effect.

If the frames are hung above a sofa, bed, or small cupboard, you can start by measuring the width of the furniture and setting the total length of the gallery wall to see how many pictures would fit side by side in the gallery wall. A good tip is to hang the posters so that they are positioned further away from the ceiling than the furniture below.

For the best balance, the distances between the frames should be based on the furniture over which the pictures hang. For example, if the pictures on the gallery wall are large in relation to the furniture, the distances between the pictures should be small and vice versa – if the pictures are rather small compared to the furniture, the differences between the pictures should be larger.

3. Select your favorite posters and create a layout

To make it easier to create a layout, we’ve assembled gallery wall stencils for different wall sizes and preferences, which you can explore below. Of course, you can also create a photo wall according to your own style – there are no rules here!

However, one good tip is to start with either a straight bottom line or a top line to maintain specificity and grip when placing. In addition, it’s a good idea to place larger posters in the centre and start adding smaller posters around it.

4. Find harmony between pictures and frames

If there are quite different styles and colours represented on the poster motifs, it is recommended that you focus on single-color frames to create harmony. If the styles are similar and there is a consistent colour gamut, such as black-and-white posters only, it is a good idea to mix different colours of picture frames. In this case, for example, you can combine black and white wooden frames, as well.

5. Best way to fix frames

The first step is undoubtedly to determine the size of the entire gallery wall by adding together the widths of all the frames and the distances between them.

Then measure the length and width of the gallery wall and mark the corners. By doing this, you can make sure that the entire gallery wall is positioned as desired. Start by placing the images in the corner and place the frame, where you want it.

Then make a small dot with a pencil in the middle of the placed frame. Measure the distance of the hanging loop from the upper edge of the frame and mark it on the wall. Hammer a nail in its place and hang the first frame. Repeat these steps for each frame.
